Note: Simple Machines Forum (SMF) is a free discussion platform
  that works well with a hybrid course that only needs a forum to
  carry out an online discussion component for an onground class.
  It can also easily link to an online course that needs a add-on
  discussion board. It does need to hosted, but it's an easy install.
